The Art Class View

The art teacher placed an easel beside the window. “Paint the view as you see it,” she told the class.

Everyone painted the hills, the clouds and the little red barn. George worked carefully for an hour without looking up.

When the teacher came round, his canvas was nearly all grey with one thin line of light.

“George, where are the hills?” she asked.

“Behind the blind,” he said. “I’m painting the view as I see it, and you asked me not to leave my seat.”
