A customer asked the bookshop owner for a book that would keep him awake all night.
“A thriller?” the owner suggested.
“I’ve tried those. I always fall asleep after three chapters.”
The owner considered the shelves and handed him a thick gardening manual.
“Is it exciting?” the customer asked.
“Not especially. But you said you needed to stay awake.”
He opened it to a page of diagrams for pruning roses.
“How will this help?”
“You can read it in the garden,” said the owner. “Your neighbour’s rooster starts at four.”
