At the shoe shop, the assistant asked Eva to walk around in a new pair before deciding. Eva went down one aisle, around a display and out through the front door.
Ten minutes later she returned carrying a coffee.
“How do they feel?” the assistant asked.
“Comfortable. I made it all the way to the café.”
“You weren’t meant to leave the shop.”
Eva looked at the shoes and then at the cup in her hand.
“Then I’d better test how fast they get me to the till,” she said.
The assistant pointed to a sign: TEST WALK ENDS AT MIRROR. Eva said, “You should put that by the door.”
