On the train, a conductor held up a red umbrella. “Did anyone leave this in the last carriage?”
Three passengers raised their hands. The conductor asked each to describe it.
“Red,” said the first.
“With a curved handle,” said the second.
“It has a little silver button,” said the third.
The conductor pressed the button. The umbrella sprang open, and a name was written along the inside edge.
All three leaned forward to read it.
“It says ‘Property of Railways,’” the conductor said.
The first passenger lowered his hand. “Then I’ve lost a different red umbrella.”
“So have I,” said the other two.
