A village replaced its faded map with a bright new one. The old map showed the post office, the pond and the footpath to the station.
On unveiling day, residents gathered around. The pond had been drawn as a car park, and the footpath ended at a blank square.
“Where is the station?” someone asked.
The designer pointed to a note in the corner: FUTURE DEVELOPMENT.
“Is the station moving?”
“No,” said the council clerk. “The map company printed next year’s plans. The car park isn’t built either.”
A child pointed to the pond. “Then the ducks still have a year to object.”
